Make plans now to attend the 3rd Statewide Quail Symposium slated for the Aug. 14-16 in Abilene. A field day on the afternoon of Aug. 14 at the MT7 Ranch near Breckenridge will kick of the symposium. I often hold up the MT7 as “the great bobwhite hope” for the Cross timbers ecoeregion; if the birds fail to respond to the ranch’s intensive (and extensive) habitat management, we may be “pushing a limp rope” to restore bobwhites by habitat management alone. Thursday and Friday’s sessions will take place at the MCM Elegante in Abilene, and are packed with stimulating discussions by regional experts. The agenda will feature various point–counterpoint sessions and a panel discussion using cattle grazing as a tool in quail habitat management. To pre-register, click here. Pre-registration is $50; at the door is $75. A special room rate ($89/night) is available but rooms are limited; contact the MCM Elegante at (888) 897-9644. Proceeds benefit Bobwhite Brigade. Hope to see you there!
